בצילומיו של נתנאל האדם כמעט ואינו נוכח ואם נוכח ברור שאינו במוקד התמונה. יחד עם זאת, "האדם" נמצא בכל דימוי ודימוי. הטבע מעשה-ידי-אדם הוא הכוכב האמיתי בצילומים שלפניכם. אנשים בראו לעצמם במשך שנות דור מעין נוף לא טבעי, יערות בטון ואספלט, הרי ברזל וזכוכית וחיו בהם בתחושה מוכרת משל היו טבעיים לחלוטין. אך, ניתן להבחין שהעולם המלאכותי הזה אינו עונה על כל צרכינו, הטבע עודנו נוכח, לפעמים בתור עציץ בודד ברחוב, לעיתים מקיף את שבנה האדם.

נראה אפוא שהמקומות בצילומים מוכרים לנו, הרי כולנו חיים במערות מלאכותיות ויערות של בניינים, שנראים, אם נודה על האמת, די אותו הדבר. מכלול הצילומים יוצר מעין על-מקום שהצפייה בו מעוררת בנו תחושה מרגיעה של היכרות אינטימית כאילו אנחנו רואים חלק מהבית, ממקום בו גדלנו, חיינו או ביקרנו בעבר. People are scarcely present in Netanel’s photographs, and when they are, it is clear they are not the focal point. The man-made nature is the real star of the photographs before you. Over countless generations, people have created for themselves an unnatural landscape of concrete and asphalt forests and iron and glass mountains and lived in them with a sense of familiarity as if they were completely natural. However, it is perceivable that this artificial world does not meet all our human needs; nature is still present. It can be a single tree in the street, and sometimes it surrounds the structures of man.

It appears that the places portrayed in the photographs are familiar to us; after all, we all live in artificial caves and forests of buildings that seem, if we admit the truth, kind of the same. Together, the photographs create a fantastic any-place that evokes in us a sense of calming intimacy, as if we are seeing a part of our home, the place where we grew up, lived in, or visited in the past. “To me, photography is an art of observation” said the photographer Elliott Erwitt, “It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place…” The same way of observing common places and finding beauty and interest in them is apparent in Netanel’s photographs.
